A journalist since 2009 and member of the National Union of Journalists and the Society of International Media & Press Photographers (SIMPP), I specialise in covering foreign affairs, human rights and general news and telling important human stories in the Arabian Peninsula, and Sub-Saharan Africa, especially East and Central Africa.
I have reported from Lebanon, Yemen, Malawi, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan and Burundi for a diverse range of publications. These include the International Business Times, the Independent, the Evening Standard, The Sun, The New Statesman, Jazeera Magazine, Yahoo News and the Daily Telegraph.
During this time, I was nominated for the Rising Star of the Year at The HeadlineMoney Media Awards 2014, I was most recently nominated for the 2016 One World Media Awards in the New Voice Award category.
I have appeared as a guest analyst on a number of prime-time news programs including African network Arise News, the Islam Channel TV and KBIA, a National Public Radio (NPR) affiliate.
After sharing stories at the NSPCC and Sentebale, I am now working with Project Masam, a humanitarian landmine, unexploded ordnance (UXO) and improvised explosive device (IED) clearance programme in Yemen. I lead on all things media and advocacy by undertaking media campaigns and manage internal communications with teams based in the UAE and Yemen.
I travel around the country to meet survivors of landmine explosions, experts in the field (mines, improvised mines, UXO and IEDs), as well as doctors specialising in landmine blast or shrapnel/fragment-induced injuries and amputations, and regularly write stories, news articles, features and blogs, and produce multi-media content including short documentaries for the organisation.
As a freelance writer, I also provide my story telling, and news and content writing services to various not-for-profits and corporate clients/content agencies (blog posts, news articles, white papers, and social media content).
In my spare time, I have also acted as a paralegal to source documents and evidence used in asylum seekers' applications with the Home Office on the behalf of a specialist immigration solicitors firm.
My CV is available here and you can access my copywriting portfolio here.
